Since most of her friends have already gotten married, actress Anne Curtis may have had an inkling that she would be next. But the 31-year-old actress said she never expected that her longtime boyfriend Erwan Heussaff would pop the question this year.

“What a beautiful way to end 2016. It came as a surprise. It’s so beautiful,” Curtis said of the marriage proposal as she confirmed it on the noontime show “It’s Showtime,” where she is a regular host. “I have no one else to thank but my ‘mon amour’ (my love) Erwan.”

The Australian-Filipina actress on Monday turned down requests from the media for an interview but promised to discuss details of the engagement and the wedding when she returns from a trip to Australia in January.

Curtis, along with sister Jasmine Curtis-Smith, will leave on Dec. 23 to spend the holidays with their family Down Under, according to her handler Monching Tabuldan.

Curtis’ best friend, model Georgina Wilson, tied the knot with Arthur Burnand in Winchester, Hampshire, England, in April. This was followed by the wedding of actress Isabelle Daza, another close friend, and Adrien Semblat in Tuscay, Italy, in September. Heussaff’s sister, Solenn was married to Nico Bolzico in Combourg, France, in May.

While the marriage proposal happened sometime in November this year, former “It’s Showtime” host Coleen Garcia said Curtis broke the news to her close friends only on Saturday.

“I found out about what happened from Billy (Garcia’s boyfriend),” she told the Inquirer on Sunday. “I think it’s about time. She’s at a point in her career when she has already achieved so much, so whatever she does with her personal life will be fine by her supporters. All her friends got married so she is like the cherry on top. She’s the last. I have a feeling her wedding will be so nice.”

Curtis’ big public reveal, which she described on her Facebook page as the “most memorable trip of my life,” happened on the same day her French-Filipino fiancée uploaded a video on YouTube that featured highlights of their trip from New York to Connecticut.

The video that ran for over six minutes also showed the time when Curtis joined the New York City marathon for the first time on November. It then showed more clips of the couple in their various trips together starting 2010.

The last few seconds showed Curtis and Heussaff in the woods of Connecticut. Heussaff, a restaurateur, asked an already crying Curtis to stand up as he went down on his knees and showed her the ring.

“It is with a grateful and happy heart that I’d like to tell all of you that I am engaged to the love of my life, Erwann Heussaff,” Curtis announced on Monday. “As someone who is always in the public eye, I think it’s very important that I share this with you.”

The actress said she felt overwhelmed with the people’s reactions, after hearing from many well-wishers. “It was all over the news and on social media. I’m so thankful. I’m just hoping that, until the end of this journey and as I enter a new chapter in my life, my ‘Showtime’ family and supporters will still be with me.”
