Sunshine’s extramarital drama hits too close to home

While she has decided to remain “civil” with her estranged husband “for the sake of their children,” Sunshine Dizon doesn’t see a reconciliation happening between her and Timothy Tan anytime soon—at least not until after the ongoing legal battle they’re embroiled in is concluded.
“I wish people would stop making up stories or spreading rumors that we have gotten back together. They don’t help; his camp could use those against me,” pointed out Sunshine, who earlier this year filed cases against Timothy and his alleged mistress, Clarisma Sison, for concubinage and violation of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act.
“There will be no reconciliation as long as the cases are in court. We’ll have to wait and see after that,” the 33-year-old GMA 7 talent told reporters at a recent press conference for the new afternoon drama, “Ika-6 na Utos” which, curiously, tackles extramarital affairs.
The couple’s six-year marriage brought them two kids, a daughter, Doreen, 5; and a son, Anton, 4. Sunshine stressed that she allows Timothy to visit the children, only “because he is still their father,” and to give them “a sense of normalcy.”
“Hatid-sundo n’ya lang ang mga bata, but that’s about it. We have already failed as partners, so the least we could do is try to be good parents,” she said.
Considering everything that has happened to her this year, Sunshine said she is happy to be doing well, with the help of friends and family. The biggest lesson she has learned from her “ordeal” is that, despite the odds, one must continue to keep moving forward.
“You have to push through. There are many obstacles in life; it’s how you handle them that matters. Will they make you better or drag you down? We have a choice. I try to be positive every day,” Sunshine said.
In the new show that hits too close to home, Sunshine plays Emma, whose pilot husband Rome (Gabby Concepcion) cheats on her with the “sexy and ambitious” interior designer, Georgia (Ryza Cenon).
“I try to separate my personal life from my work. I’m grateful to be in this project. At the end of the day, I’m simply portraying a character in a work of fiction,” she said, adding that she isn’t entertaining suitors because she is still technically married.
“Hayaan nating ang iba ang gumawa niyan (let others do it),” Sunshine quipped.
Was that a dig toward her husband and Clarisma? “Kung tamaan sila, problema na nila ’yun (if they feel alluded to, that’s their problem),” she said, smiling.
