Cheer Factor: Filipino indies everywhere

Adolfo Alix Jr.’s “Isda” competes at the the 33rd Festival des 3 Continents in Nantes, France, November 22 to 29, against films from nine other countries. Lino Brocka’s “Angela Markado” won the grand prize in 1984.

Cannes-winning filmmaker Brillante Mendoza will be a juror at the 29th Torino film fest in Italy, November 25 to December 3, and then at the 11th Marrakech film fest, December 2-10.

Auraeus Solito’s “Busong” won at the 38th Brussels International Festival of Independent Film, held November 1 to 6. “Busong,” which recounts legends from Palawan, won the Tomorrow’s Cinema/Emile Cantillon award. Bayani San Diego Jr.
