‘Pacific Rim’ sequel title revealed, begins production

“Pacific Rim” actor John Boyega revealed the sequel title of the upcoming movie.

In his Instagram post on Thursday, the actor snapped the movie script’s cover page, confirming that “Pacific Rim 2” will be “Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.”

“First day on Pacific Rim today. Here’s to a great adventure ahead,” he wrote. The snap also confirmed that the movie’s production began in Sydney, Australia.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Boyega will portray Stacker Pentecost’s son in the film. He will be joined by Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian and Levi Meaden. Steven S. DeKnight will direct the sci-fi thriller.

The first film, set in a futuristic cycle, depicted a bloody war between humans and monsters, which sprang up from a portal located under the Pacific Ocean. To counter the horrid force, humankind engineered the Jaegers, or robots tasked to defeat aliens.

“Pacific Rim” was first shown in 2013 and starred Idris Elba, Robert Kazinsky and Charlie Hunnam. It grossed $411 million ( P20 billion) worldwide.
