After 35 years, the all-time favorite Swedish group reunites for a new digital and virtual project.
Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid “Frida” Lyngstad, the four original members of ABBA, teamed up with music manager Simon Fuller and Universal Music Group to launch a new digital experience that involves virtual reality and artificial intelligence.
“The creativity and ideas flowing from the members of ABBA over the past few months have filled me with great excitement. We are exploring a new technological world, with Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence at the forefront, that will allow us to create new forms of entertainment and content we couldn’t have previously imagined,” Fuller said in a statement.
Full details of the exciting collaboration will be divulged next year.
The pop group aims to enable millennials and younger generations to experience, feel and hear their classics “in a way previously unimagined.”
“Our fans around the world are always asking us to reform and so I hope this new ABBA creation will excite them as much as it excites me,” Lyngstad said in the press statement.
Echoing her enthusiasm for the project, Andersson said, “We’re inspired by the limitless possibilities of what the future holds and are loving being a part of creating something new and dramatic here. A time machine that captures the essence of who we were. And are.”
Some of their highly acclaimed hits include “Chiquitita,” “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” “The Winner Takes It All,” and “Super Trouper.” The ABBA nostalgia spiked when “Mama Mia,” a theatrical adaption and film featuring their songs, was screened years ago.
After more than a decade of entertaining around the globe, ABBA disbanded in 1982-1983 and played their final gig in a 1986 TV show performance. Ever since their breakup, the quartet steadily spurned million-dollar offers to perform.
