Actor Julio Diaz on Monday joked that he had to actually rise from bed to check if he was still alive, following recent reports that he already passed away.

In an interview with Radyo Inquirer, Diaz, born Mariano Regaliza, clarified that it was his 55-year-old half-brother with the same name who passed away due to cardiac arrest.

My half-brother by my father with the same name passed away. It seemed there was a misunderstanding because it was stated that I died and they published my picture in the news),” he said.

Citing a Facebook post from a batchmate of Diaz’s brother, the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) first reported the actor’s supposed “death.” PEP has apologized for the confusion that the report caused.

Diaz said he was surprised by the calls and messages he received in the wee hours on Monday.

(Many people called me, I was awakened by the calls. I was surprised by those who called, I told them, “What? I’m dead? What I did was I rose from bed to check if I was still alive.)

Although in good condition, the 57-year-old actor said he was being extra cautious over his health because of heart enlargement. YG/RAM/rga
