VINA Morales

Vina Morales was my son IC Mendoza’s first show biz crush when he was still a child star. They worked together in “Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum.” Now that IC is openly gay, Vina has turned into one of his style icons.

After three colorful decades in the biz, Vina will celebrate with a bang by way of her anniversary/birthday concert, “Vina@ Thirty,” on Oct. 14, 8 p.m. at Kia Theater (for tickets, call 9115555).

The show is mounted by my good friend, Pops Fernandez (DSL Events), who works hard behind-the-scenes to give artists like Vina their shining moment.

FEATURED STORIES

I remember when we were together, Pops and I kept teasing Vina and Marc Lambert (her French boyfriend), who was still wooing her at the time. The ultimate show girl is in a state of bliss in her la vida Vina at trenta.

Here’s my tête-à-tête with Vina:

What do you remember most about your struggling days?

It was tough to be an actress and a singer years ago. You had to work hard to be a celebrity, unlike now that there are talent searches and reality shows where anyone can become an instant celebrity.

That was the struggle for me, but I was blessed that I was discovered by a priest, Father Fritz Malinao, while singing in a church choir—and everything started from there.

What was the turning point of your career?
When my family and I decided to leave our home in Bogo in Cebu to relocate to Manila and pursue my dreams.

What makes your relationship with Marc work?
Love and mutual respect. Since it’s a long-distance relationship, we make it a point to communicate every day and find time to travel together to make our bond stronger.

Do you and Marc have wedding plans?
For now, I can’t answer that. We will go where God leads us.

What was the sweetest thing Marc did for you?
He cooks for me, surprises me with gifts and flowers even when there’s no special occasion, and treats me like a princess on our vacation trips.

When Ceana is old enough, what advice would you give her about love?
It’s hard to give your daughter advice. I will just reassure her that I’ll always guide and support her no matter whom she chooses to love.

If you could only sing one song, what would it be?
“Not While I’m Around.” It’s my song for Ceana.

If your life story would me made into a song, what will the title be?
“This is My Now.”

What’s next for you after 30 years in the biz?
I’m just grateful to the Lord and those who have supported me for 30 remarkable years… looking forward to even more remarkable years ahead.
