WILSON. Art and activism can go hand in hand.
Albert Posadas, businessman: “Monique Wilson should return to acting soon, before the public forgets about how good an actress she is. She was exceptional in her Urian-winning portrayal in ‘Laro sa Baga,” but her ‘committed’ performances onstage (in ‘Cabaret’ and “My Name is Rachel Corrie’) also deserve a follow-up.
“I understand that Monique is passionate about her advocacies, but why can’t she combine art and activism? In her line of work, there’s no reason why they can’t go hand in hand.”

Aleli Patron, nurse: “I concur with last week’s commentary about the production approach of ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’ dwelling on the passion of marital relationship and sidelining the impact of the disease (Alzheimer’s) that its male lead (Tom Rodriguez) is afflicted with. The show should have highlighted the illness’ onset and progression over time.
“Rodriguez reiterates that the soap is awareness-raising, but it dwells more on sentimentality, instead. A more enlightening approach should have involved a factual presentation of the problem and the search for assistance.”
Joanne Nuiqui, housewife: “Janella Salvador was doing great in a scene on ‘Born for You,’ where she was being interviewed on a show biz talk show—until she mispronounced the word career for carrier. Pronunciation lapses can be avoided by retakes. Don’t the production people notice them?”
Jose Mari Maycacayan, marketing consultant: “I’m glad that, through the teleserye ‘Till I Met You,’ underrated actresses Carmina Villaroel and Pokwang are utilized well in complex supporting roles.”
Roland Circulado, student: “The Golden Lion triumph of Lav Diaz’ ‘Ang Babaeng Humayo’ at the Venice film fest should have been a boost for its Oscar chances.”
