Jason Paul Laxamana’s “Magkakabaung (The Coffin Maker)” is included in the lineup of the 12th Atlanta Asian Film Festival, to be held from Oct. 7 to 22 in Georgia, United States.
The fest’s website describes “Magkakabaung” as “one of the most highly praised films” of 2014. It “takes us on a deeply emotional journey, free of cliché and sentimentality, slowly unveiling the struggles of a man who must confront his guilt and remorse,” the site relates.
Laxamana’s film is the only Filipino movie on the list, which also features entries from Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, India, among others.
The fest’s site points out that the event’s goal is to serve as “a platform to showcase emerging talents and filmmakers… and create an annual conscious-raising celebration of Asian-American cultures through educational, informative and entertaining films.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
