Sen. Grace Poe will lead a “simple and solemn gathering” of family and close friends at the Manila North Cemetery on Saturday to commemorate the 77th birthday of her father, the late Fernando Poe Jr. (FPJ).
Poe said a mass will be held at 9:00 a.m.
Actor Coco Martin, who played “Cardo” in the top-rating ABS-CBN program, “FPJ’s Ang Probinsiyano,” paid tribute to the late actor, thanking him for the legacy he left behind.
Martin’s role in the show on was first portrayed by FPJ on the big screen.
“Mula noon hanggang ngayon, mananatiling buhay ang mga obra ni FPJ sa puso’t isipan ng bawat Filipino,” Martin said in a short video.
“Naging inspiration, nagdala ng saya at pagkakaisa, nagbigay ng pag asa; ipiinakita nya na lahat ay kakayanin basta kasama ang Dyos at ang pamilya,” the actor added.

Born August 20, 1939, FPJ was dubbed as the king of Philippine movies. He was also declared a National Artist posthumously.
FPJ starred in and produced more than a hundred films that shaped Philippine arts and highlighted the struggles and victories of ordinary Filipinos. Among his most notable movies are “Ang Panday,” “Ang Probinsyano,” “Magnum Muslim 357” at “Batas ng Lansangan.” CDG/rga
