Thoroughly independent Superstar
FRESH from the success of her Cinemalaya entry, Derick Cabrido’s “Tuos,” which brought home five trophies at the festival, Superstar Nora Aunor is making another indie film—her second with Naga-based filmmaker Kristian Sendon Cordero.
Her first collaboration with Cordero, “Hinulid,” will premiere at the QCinema International Film Festival in October.
As followup, she will again shoot Cordero’s “Colgante,” which is about the Peñafrancia tragedy, in Bicol.
La Aunor told the Inquirer that today’s generation of filmmakers like Cabrido and Cordero remind her of working with screen mavericks “Lino Brocka, Ishmael Bernal, Mario O’Hara and Elwood Perez” in the 1970s and ’80s. “They tell different stories, but ‘Tuos’ and ‘Hinulid’ are both well-made. Malinis ang pagkagawa,” she said. “I admire today’s young directors.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
