Jed Madela sings Celine Dion’s well-loved ballads

AFTER featuring the music of pop-R&B superstar Mariah Carey, the next leg of Jed Madela’s “The Iconic Concert Series” will tackle that of another pop music diva—Celine Dion.

“Celine’s songs are very emotional. Her attack to her songs is different from Mariah’s—it’s more commercial,” Jed said of Celine’s music during a recent interview.

The singer added that the concert, which will be held on Aug. 19 at the Music Museum in Greenhills (call 470222 or 8919999), will have a set list composed of Celine’s most well-loved ballads, as well as a number of obscure tracks.

Asked which song he would love to perform with the Canadian vocalist should he be given the chance, Jed said it would be “The Prayer.”

“I’ve done the song with some of our local divas,” related Jed, who sees taking on songs written for females a challenge. “The message of the song is universal and resonates with kids and older people.”

KC and the Sunshine Band, the 1970s group known for groovy music that fuses funk, disco and R&B, will perform in a one-night show, mounted by Ovation Productions, on Sept. 14 at Smart Araneta Coliseum (call 9115555).

Led by KC, or Harry Wayne Casey, the 15-piece group is behind such ditties as “Get Down Tonight,” “That’s the Way I Like It,” “Shake Your Booty” and “Please Don’t Go.”

The Grammy-winning band has had five Billboard No. 1 hits and has reportedly sold over 100 million records throughout its 40 years in the business. Allan Policarpio
