Bailey and Ylona: Proudly Pinoy
BAILEY May and Ylona Garcia, “Pinoy Big Brother’s” popular teen tandem, may have been raised in the United Kingdom and Australia, respectively, but they say they’re Pinoy at heart. To get to know them better, we asked 13-year-old Bailey and Ylona, 14, to answer some questions:
You were raised in different countries. What made you decide to pursue show biz careers in the Philippines?
Bailey (B): I was given the opportunity to be a part of PBB and have been blessed with projects after it ended. So, I will pursue every opportunity that comes my way.
Ylona (Y): It is my dream to broaden my horizons and share my God-given talent with a wider audience. I love singing and, since our family originated from the Philippines, I feel that this is where I should go.
Who’s your closest friend in the biz?

What do you do when you’re not working? What are your hobbies?
B: I go to the gym, play PS4 and hang out with my friends and family. Football has been my favorite sport since I was a kid.
Y: My friends and I would get together for lunch or dinner, or watch a movie. I love watching Filipino movies, because they help me learn Filipino faster and get familiar with the things I need to learn in acting.
Actors/performers you look up to?
B: I like Jim Carey, because he’s funny. Austin Mahone inspires me—he’s a great performer.
Y: I look up to Ate Maja (Salvador), Enchong (Dee) and Tito Gary (Valenciano) because despite the years they’ve been in the business, they remain humble and treat me as one of their “cubs.” I like Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Beyoncé because they show me that the impossible can be done.
Do you have pet peeves?
B: No aircon—and tight spaces! I don’t like girls who have been dating many people. I want someone who’s kind and caring towards me.
Y: It annoys me when people seem like they really like you, but when you turn your back, they say negative stuff about you. It turns me off when people are overconfident and talk too much about themselves.
Things your fans don’t know about you?
Y: I love stalking people’s pages on social media. It’s kind of creepy, but I just like to know my fans better, more than just a username.
Most embarrassing experience with a fan?
B: When I put my head out of the car window while driving past a group of fans—and someone put her hand in my mouth!
Y: When a fan hugged me, and her face was in my armpit. I felt bad, because I was sweating so much after performing!
What are your Pinoy traits?
B: I’m polite—and I love Filipino food.
Y: Let’s start off with my skin—and, of course, being religious and obedient to my parents.
