A FRIEND of mine disclosed how surprised she was to receive a phone call from US Vice President Joe Biden, who invited her and her husband to have dinner with him. “Mr. Biden was kind. He was such a gentleman,” my friend recalled. Some words of wisdom from the hard-working leader:
Fighting corruption is not just good governance. It’s self-defense. It’s patriotism.
Failure at some point in your life is inevitable, but giving up is unforgivable.
One of the things I’ve never been accused of is not caring about people.
Measure of a man
My dad always said, “The measure of a man is not how often he is knocked down, but how quickly he gets up.”
Our future cannot depend on the government alone. The ultimate solutions lie in the attitude and actions of the people.
Telling the truth has never hurt me.
For any young democracy, the most difficult but important step is burying the legacy of tyranny and establishing an economy, a government and institutions that abide by the rule of law.
Life is a matter of tough choices.
Corruption is another form of tyranny. It’s a cancer that eats away at citizens’ faith in democracy, and diminishes the instinct for innovation and creativity. It wastes the talent of entire generations and scares away investments and jobs.
