At the start of every TV season, viewers wonder what the big new fave program type will turn out to be. This year, it looks like game shows or segments are going to be “it!”

On GMA 7, WIllie Revillame’s weekend program,  “Wowowin” is now being telecast every weekday, which could in part be why ABS-CBN recently trotted out its new game show, “Game ng Bayan,” with Robin Padilla hosting. (Robin may no longer be active as an action star, but he’s busy as a bee on TV this season, with judging chores on “Pilipinas Got Talent,” plus his new weekday game show.)

Other game shows or segments on ABS-CBN include “Celebrity Playtime” with Luis Manzano, and “I Love OPM.” Plus numerous tilts and competition segments on “It’s Showtime,” like “Tawag ng Tanghalan” and “Trabahula.”

Waiting in the wings for telecasting later this year are new seasons of “Family Feud,” “Pinoy Big Brother,” “The Voice Kids” and “Dance Kids.”

For its part, GMA 7 is not about to be left behind in the game and competition race, with its own segments on “Eat Bulaga,” like “Just Duet” and “Traffic Diva.”

In terms of game shows, GMA 7 has, aside from “Wowowin,” “CelebriTV” and “Lip Sync Battle Philippines.” Also coming up are new editions of “Starstruck”.

As for TV5, it’s fielding “Born To Be A Star” and new shows coming up this season could include “Tough and Rough,” a reality sports competition.
