Acclaimed Hollywood actress Meryl Streep met the cast members of Lav Diaz’s eight-hour opus “Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis” during the awarding ceremony of the 66th Berlin International Film Festival, more known as the Berlinale.
In photos shared by Inquirer Entertainment, it can be seen that the three-time Oscar winner rubbed elbows and chatted with John Lloyd Cruz, Angel Aquino, Cherie Gil, Susan Africa, and Hazel Orencio.
Streep, who is the president of the seven-member jury, said that it was an “honor” for her to meet the cast of “Hele.”
On her Instagram account, Aquino gushed about the experience of meeting Streep.
“This kiss.. Not even in my wildest dreams.. I almost did not survive it. I thought I can never love Meryl Streep more…?” she said.
Film producer Paul Soriano also posted a photo of him with the Hollywood actress.
Another international celebrity present was jury member and English actor Clive Owen who also met with the “Hele” cast.
“Hele,” which showed Diaz’s reimagination of the 1896 revolution and the search for Andres Bonifacio’s body, won the Alfred Bauer Prize for work of particular innovation in the said film festival. AJH
