Social media went abuzz as netizens expressed their disapproval over reports that Vice President Jejomar Binay was eyeing GMA actor Alden Richards to portray him should a film about him be produced.
Alluding to a popular line in Eat Bulaga’s hit “Kalye Serye” segment, Twitter user Arnol Padilla (@arnoldpadilla) said there was no right time for Binay’s suggestion.
“Alden as Binay in a biopic? Ito ang walang tamanag panahon,” he said.
Kathryn Rose Gustilo (@bebekath00) said Binay, who will run for president in the 2016 elections, will just ride on the popularity of Richards, who rose to fame following the success of his loveteam with online sensation Maine Mendoza or “Yaya Dub.”
“Hay naku, Binay. Nakikisawsaw ka lang sa kasikatan ni Alden ngayon. Pwede ba, humanap ka na lang ng iba na gaganap, tse!” Gustilo tweeted.
“’Wag niyo pong gamitin si Alden para sa publicity n’yo, VP Binay,” Cristina Serrano (@crstnasrno24) said.
Highlighting the difference between Richards and Binay’s skin color, many netizens said the Vice President may be dreaming when he made the comment.
“Maputi daw kasi si Binay dati, kaya si Alden ang kukunin niya. Walang masamang mangarap,” said Mark Joshua Pineda (@Geekrology).
“Alden to play as Binay in a biopic is ridiculous! It isn’t about the skin color, more than that, Alden’s good image will be tarnished,” @ClosetAldubFan tweeted, alluding to the corruption allegations being hurled against the Vice President.
There were also those who urged Richards and his camp not to accept the role in the event that it will push through.
“Don’t do it Alden, for the country. Pero seryoso, matalino nga si Binay naiisip niya ‘to kung gagawing totoo,” @hetsked tweeted.
“It will be a wrong for Alden’s camp if they will agree to do the Binay movie. Que horror!” @mudranilukelana said. YG/JE
