The trending hashtag #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate has recorded 5.16 million tweets as of 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, less than an hour before the much-anticipated date of popular love team AlDub.
Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, who plays the character of Yaya Dub, are the star-crossed lovers in Eat Bulaga’s hit segment “Kalyeserye.”
For the longest time, the two have been kept away from each other. They became known for communicating through split-screen monitors and for lip-synching famous songs.

On Thursday, Lola Nidora, played by comedian Wally Bayola, announced that she will allow Richards and Mendoza to go on a date.
Fans of the love team have since been busy making the hashtag #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate trend. In one episode, the two were abducted, resulting in a flurry of tweets which broke previous records. A total of 6.35 million tweets in 24 hours were recorded for the hashtag #ALDUBTheAbduction.

Besides #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate, the hashtag of a rival noontime show #ShowtimeMagpastillas was also trending in the Philippines. However, it reached only 227,000 tweets by noon. KS/RAM
