Filipino dance crews place in World Hip-Hop Dance Championships
Three Filipino hip-hop dance crews earned medals at the recently concluded World Hip-Hop Dance Championships at the San Diego State University’s Viejas Arena in California, United States on Aug. 9.
The Philippine delegation placed in three of the international tilt’s four categories: The Saint Benilde Romancon Dance Company and Legit Status ended in second place in the Adult division and Varsity division, respectively. Meanwhile, The A-Team — the defending champion in the Mega Crew division — settled for third place this time around.
“They were happy and thankful. They worked very hard for months,” Eloisa Matias, mother of Legit Status member Race Matias, told the Inquirer.
Other Filipino troupes that made it to the contest’s finals were Rockstars (Adult) and La Salle Dance Company-Street (Mega Crew).
Mounted by Hip-Hop International, this year’s World Hip-Hop Dance Championships gathered over 3000 dancers from 50 countries.
