New Cory stamps
TITA CORY (Aquino) is gone, but she and her legacy remain in our hearts. The Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost), under Postmaster General Josie de la Cruz, is immortalizing her passion for painting by issuing scented postage stamps featuring her artworks, in observance of the former president’s sixth death anniversary today, Aug. 1.
For the issuance of the stamps, presidential sisters, Ballsy Cruz and Pinky Abellada, lent their collections of Cory’s floral artworks, as did businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan, Peza director Lilia de Lima, Philippine Star president Miguel Belmonte and Metrobank chair George Ty.
PHLPost launched the second series of scented stamps at Sofitel last Wednesday, organized by Bulong Pulungan’s Deedee Siytangco, who was Cory’s spokesperson. The first set was released last year.
Flowers were Aquino’s favorite subjects. She liked giving her paintings as personal gifts. I myself received a “thank you” memento for covering her trip to Hong Kong, when she was declared Time’s Woman of the Year in 1986.
