It is high time the spotlight be focused also on our indie bands and acts. They form a deep well of diverse and amazing talents in the local scene. I will be showcasing once in a while an indie band or act that to my mind deserves a look and more attention.

So below, let’s get to know (S)crabble:

What is the origin of your band?

FEATURED STORIES

Kristian Paulin: It was in early 2002 that I thought of forming a band. Two of my college classmates were guitar players who were both into the same music as I did. We got to hangout a lot and it was during one of those hangouts that I first met John Villame who became our bassist. Soon after my sister introduced me to her boyfriend Tres Policarpio who, lucky for us was a drummer. Now the band is complete.

What are the band’s musical influences?

Kristian Paulin: We literally listen to all types of music. Punk, Funk, Metal, 90s Alternative Rock and 60s Rock are our main influences.

Can you describe your style of music to the unfamiliar?

Kristian Paulin: Our music is a mix of Punk, Funk, Metal, 90s Alternative Rock and 60s Rock and we call it “the (s)crabble sound” LOL! John calls our songs scrabblized. Hahaha!

What do you think of the current local scene?

Kristian Paulin: I think REAL musicians, song writers and singers are neglected. I also think that music fans themselves have stopped supporting their local music scene. Based on observation hindi na sila pumupunta ng mga gigs.

Any upcoming gigs you would like to promote?

Kristian Paulin: No gig schedule yet. We will be having gigs by September.
