K-POP: The 5 girl group summer dances that are killing it
K-pop girl groups are flaunting sexy-themed costumes and choreography for their summer comeback. Bikini-clad music videos are increasingly more in demand, as are catchy dance routines. The following is a list of trending dance videos by Korea’s hottest girl groups.
1. Girls’ Generation’s ‘soju dance,’ ‘Mickey Mouse dance’
Girls’ Generation, or SNSD, hosted a surprise event at their comeback showcase held on July 7, where they asked their fans to christen the choreography for “Party,” their title song. Group member Tiffany motioned rabbit ears and held an invisible drink to her lips. The dance moves earned the names “Mickey Mouse dance” and “soju dance” after the popular Korean alcoholic beverage.
2) Sistar’s ‘bubble hip dance’
Girl group known for its members’ healthy toned looks, Sistar showed off a dance move that emphasized hip movement befitting of the song title “Shake It.” The dance was later dubbed the “bubble hip dance.”
3) Girl’s Day’s ‘dog-leg dance’, ‘horse-riding dance’
Contrary to the controversy it faced domestically with revealing swimsuit outfits, Girl’s Day received much love overseas with its new title song “Ring My Bell.” Fans created cover videos of the girl group’s leg-shaking dance and hip-hitting movements, which were affectionately named the “dog-leg dance” and “horse-riding dance.”
4) AOA’s ‘heart attack dance,’ ‘fall for you dance,’ ‘come here dance’
AOA introduced a set of seductive dance moves in June, with the release of its latest title song “Heart Attack.” An eponymous dance move shows the girls placing their hands near their heart and motioning it to be failing. The“fall for you dance” shows a swaying of the hips with arms wrapped around the torso, while the “come here dance” is a movement to beckon the crush to come near.
5) Mamamoo’s ‘Hunminjeongeum dance’
Rookie girl group Mamamoo, establishing its name as a strong vocal group, has recently comeback with a more girly and funky feel. Its new song “Um Oh Ah Yeah” features a choreography that has earned a nickname after the very first Korean alphabet book, “Hunminjeongeum.”
