Cody’s musical career started at the early age of 11. Back in 2008, he posted videos of his musical performances on Youtube. The rest is history as it was in that avenue that he was discovered by producer Shawn Campbell.
He signed onto Atlantic Records in 2010, releasing 4 U, an EP that spawned hits like “iYiYi” with Flo Rida and “All Day”. After several EPs, he finally released his debut album Paradise. But it was his second album Surfer’s Paradise that catapulted him to the Billboard charts, claiming the 10th spot in 2013. Cody serenaded us with ukulele-centric “La Da Dee” and R&B-infused “Pretty Brown Eyes”.
We got a chance to talk to the rising pop star and ask him about his new music venture and upcoming visit to the Philippines.
1. When and how did you realize that you wanted to be a musician?
Music has been a part of my life since I was very young. I’ve been singing and playing guitar since elementary school. I think after the success of the Youtube videos we realized there was the possibility to turn this into something special.
2. What made you decide to start your own label, Coast House?
I just wanted to make the music I wanted to make. I wanted to have more creative control and more freedom in the musical process than I did when I was trying to please the execs.
3. Favorite song off your upcoming EP, Free?
Wilderness. Check out the video on my Youtube page, it’s for a great cause. I partnered with the SurfRider Foundation to help clean up the oil spill in Santa Barbara.
4. What are you looking forward to in your upcoming visit to the Philippines?
Meeting all the incredible fans who have waited so patiently for me to come and visit.
