In an Instagram post, Siquijor Vice Governor and singer Dingdong Avanzado said that Daza has already explained why she used the hashtag #siquiWhores during her trip to the island province over the weekend.

She also apologized to the people of Siquijor who might have been offended from her pun, he said.

“Actress Isabelle Daza has already explained that the hashtag‪ #‎siquiWhores  was merely ‘a joke’ and is a ‘term of endearment’ between her and her cousins. Likewise, she apologized to the people of Siquijor who may have been offended by such a term,” Avanzado said.

The Siquijor vice governor added: “I encourage netizens and the people of Siquijor to accept her apology, move on, and focus our time and efforts on more important concerns that our nation faces today.”

The actress issued the apology following Avanzado’s statement urging her to clarify why she used the said hashtag.

Daza on Saturday posted a photo with her cousin Martine Cajucom with the caption: “We’re here to insta! Lol #siquiWhores #dumagetiton.”

The hashtag is a play on “Siquijor” and “whore,” which means prostitute. It drew mixed reactions from netizens, with some accusing Daza of tagging the people of Siquijor as “whores” while others said that post didn’t mean any harm.
