The third installment of the hit musical-comedy “Pitch Perfect” gets a green light after its release date was revealed and two of its lead stars agreed to reprise their roles.
In an exclusive report from the Hollywood Reporter, Universal and Gold Circle decided to push through with “Pitch Perfect 3” and are now in negotiations to secure Kay Cannon to write the third movie. It is not yet decided if Elizabeth Banks, one of the stars in the film, will be the third film’s director.
The movie is set to premiere on July 21, 2017.
The 2012 sleeper hit film grossed $113 million worldwide while its sequel “Pitch Perfect 2” earned $160.9 million in the US a month after it was released.
Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson agreed to reprise their roles as Beca Mitchell and Fat Amy for the third film.
Both Kendrick and Wilson expressed their excitement on the announcement on their social media accounts.
Kendrick posted a photo of her gesturing the number “3” while Wilson said: “I know I spilt the beans a little while ago, but at least now it’s OFFICIAL!! PITCH PERFECT 3, July 21, 2017!!! Sing ‘ahhhhh’ on 3 pitches x.”
Pitch Perfect 2 introduced Fil-Am Hailee Steinfeld as a new member of the all-girl acapella group “The Barden Bellas” and a cameo of the Fil-Am acapella group, “The Filharmonic.” AJH
