Right before the future and right after the past
It was a heady celebration for The CompanY, which marked three decades in the music biz with a sold-out show at The Theatre, Solaire on Saturday night.
Moy Ortiz, the vocal group’s leader, recalled: “While doing the show, I constantly reminded myself to be in the moment, to be sincere, but also not to lose it and get caught in an ‘ugly cry’ episode. I had to keep it together because I cannot sing at all when I cry.”
The whole evening was “surreal,” he related.
“The highlight for me was when we learned that, for the first time, the Theatre got sold-out … it was filled to the rafters all the way to the last row of the balcony.”
Then it hit him. “It dawned on me that the night was historic when, after almost three hours, the audience gave us a standing ovation, but kept asking for more.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
