ABELLANA. Shakes things up on “Pari ‘Koy.”

On “PARI ‘Koy,” the latest twist last week was the introduction of a new character, Michelle (Carla Abellana), who turned out to be the former girlfriend of the series’ resident padre, played by Dingdong Dantes!

Carla’s character is now romantically linked to the barangay chair portrayed by Gabby Eigenmann, who used to be the priest’s antagonist, until they ended up as good friends. But, with Michelle now back in the picture, what will happen to the new friendship?

This is the sort of complication and conflict that’s good for stirring up old resentments, which could be a productive plot move. So we’ll see which way it goes, hoping that it won’t end up as complication for the sake of just shaking things up so viewers will keep watching.

Fiancee

On “Let the Love Begin,” the new wrinkle is the appearance of a woman played by Donita Rose, who turns out to be—Garde Verzosa’s fiancee! This shocks Ai Ai de las Alas’ character, who was entertaining thoughts that she and Gardo could end up together, not just as a DJ team on radio, but also in real life.

Well, with the lovely Donita now in contention, Ai Ai can kiss that ilusyonada fantasy goodbye!

In fact, a recent telecast had Gardo and Donita getting married in church, while Ai Ai ate her bleeding heart. —By the way, she was quite unfairly accused of “sabotaging” the lovely wedding rites—when in actuality, it was the DJ tandem’s irate fans who barged in on the ceremony and threw mud at Donita—ruining her beautiful bridal ensemble and transforming the wedding triumph into a fiasco!

What’s going to happen to the show’s resident protagonists and antagonists after that? We expect that Donita and Ai Ai will hate each other with a vengeance, and as the years unreel in brisk, fast-forward style, it’ll be the turn of their respective children, now male and female teenagers, to suffer the consequences of their

combative folks’ back story.

Before it concludes its extended storytelling this week, “Forevermore” saw the puzzling last-minute insertion of a new character, a veterinarian played by Erich Gonzales, as Enrique Gil’s new friend, and possible distraction and/or love interest—since Liza Soberano was taking so long to give him his long-awaited second chance.

Why such a late insertion? Perhaps the series’ think tank felt that viewers were getting bored, so it was time to stir things up with the last-minute twist? Whatever the well-intended reason, it was a perplexing move, especially on Erich’s part, because it gave her so little to do, other than providing a beautiful “distraction” for Enrique. Stars should have better things to do than accept no-future roles like this.
