The Last Daughter of Krypton will soon be the latest character from the DC comics universe to get her own TV series.
According to a report by Variety, Melissa Benoist has been cast to play the super powered heroine for CBS’ “Supergirl.”
Benoist had previously appeared on television as William McKinley High School student Marley Rose in “Glee,” and as Nicole in the Academy Award winning film “Whiplash.”
Warner Bros. TV Producer Greg Berlanti is also said to be in the mix. Berlanti’s other projects are the other two TV series featuring DC characters, CW’s “Arrow” and “The Flash.”
Rounding off the cast are other familiar faces, both from within the DC comics mythos and from other recognizable TV shows.
Calista Flockhart, who played the eponymous lead of law comedy “Ally McBeal” will lend her star power to the show. Helen Slater—who previously played the part in the 1984 Supergirl movie—will be joining the cast, as well as Dean Cain of “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” fame.
“Supergirl” has been scheduled by CBS to premiere for its 2015-2016 season.
