Comedy Cebu successfully stages open mic contest, int’l shows

CEBU, Philippines – Comedy Cebu, the first and only Filipino and international point-of-view stand-up comedy group in Cebu founded by Gary Jackson and Iris Montesclaros, is delivering on their promise of cultivating local comedy talent here in Cebu while introducing the city to the international stand-up comedy circuit.
Last March 26, Comedy Cebu held its weekly open mic night competition at Kukuk’s Nest along Gorordo Avenue to scout for local talents who can join their point-of-view stand-up comedy group. Students Cassandra Marquis and Karen Dacumos emerged as winners in the stand-up comedy contest. Marquis and Dacumos each won a 3-minute spot in the international comedy show, performing with Comedy Cebu’s guest stand-up comedians that was staged two days after at Crown Regency Hotel, Fuente Osmena.
The following two days proved to be an unforgettable comedy weekend both for Cebu and for the comedy group and their international guests as they presented two successful international stand-up comedy shows during the two days that followed.
March was also a special treat from Comedy Cebu as there were two international headliners who graced their events and also helped mentor the new stand-up comics.
SAM McCOOL, international stand-up comedian and finalist of Australia’s Got Talent and DWAYNE PERKINS, international stand-up comedian, author and actor, who has been seen on Conan, TheTonight Show, The Jay Leno Show and Comedy Central, double-headlined both Laugh Trip #4 International Stand-Up Comedy Show at Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu last March 27 and Laughing Gas #1 International Stand-Up Comedy Show at Fifties Cafe, Crown Regency Hotel Fuente Osmena last March 28.
Supporting acts by guest comedians Red Ollero (Comedy Manila), and Sam Moorhouse (Takeout Comedy HKG) completed both shows that had their audience crying from laughter during their special March comedy weekend.
Comedy Cebu continues to hold its weekly open mic nights every Thursday at Kukuk’s Nest every Thursday at 8:30PM onwards and their monthly international comedy weekend shows which the group announces on their social media accounts and official websitecomedycebu.com.
Comedy Cebu practices point-of-view or observational comedy, humor based on universal human experiences and daily life, which is highly entertaining.
