‘Glory’ wins Oscar for best original song

LOS ANGELES — “Glory” from “Selma” has won the Academy Award for best original song.

Performed by Common and John Legend and composed by John Stephens and Lonnie Lynn, it also won the Golden Globe for best original song.

Common also has an acting role in “Selma,” which is based on the historic 1965 march from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery led by Martin Luther King Jr. The film is also nominated for best picture.

Other nominees were “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” (“Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me”); “Grateful” (“Beyond The Lights”); “Everything is Awesome” (“The Lego Movie”); and “Lost Stars” (“Begin Again”).

The 87th Academy Awards are airing live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with Neil Patrick Harris as host.
