Hyper ‘happening’ show biz week

/ 01:12 AM February 21, 2015

Last week was a particularly “happening” time for show biz denizens, who figured in these notable highlights and sidelights:

Resorts World and Viva are coming up with a stage musical version of the hit musical melodrama, “Bituing Walang Ning-ning.” Who will get to play the plum roles originally and iconically essayed by Sharon Cuneta and Cherie Gil? Abangan!

Theater buffs are encouraged to catch the presentations being staged in different venues of the ongoing Fringe Manila festival—consult cultural calendars in newspapers and magazines for specific features.

Before 2015 is over, Kuh Ledesma will come out with a book on her eventful life and career. Other iconic show biz stars should follow suit! In addition, Kuh should find the time and inspiration to mount a follow-up to her successful art exhibit last year.

Angelo Castro Jr. and June Keithley’s son, Diego Castro, is known as an actor and chef. This year, he’s following in his father’s footsteps as a newscaster on UNTV.

A bill has been filed in congress that pushes the establishment of “humor wards” in hospitals—a good move that should be supported by the public, because it’s proven to be effective elsewhere. Laughter can be the best medicine—or a good alternative aid thereto!

Some stars’ fans should be congratulated for supporting their faves by organizing “block” screenings of their latest movies. Other groups of fans should be as proactive!

It’s good to hear that Sharon Cuneta is slowly but surely winning her battle of the bulge. Other overweight stars should follow suit, to boost their floundering careers.

Cosplay queen Alodia Gosiengfiao is popular not just here, but also in Japan. She’s part of a girl band there, and is starring in a Japanese movie, as well.

Joey Marquez’s daughter, Winwyn, is a standout in this year’s Binibining Pilipinas competition. Aside from looking really good, she’s an exceptional dancer, to boot.

No wonder her Tita Melanie is beaming with pride. Looks like Winwyn could live up to her name—in a really big way!
