MANILA, Philippines—Filipinos who will watch “Paddington” when it is shown in theaters will be greeted with a familiar voice.
Actor Xian Lim was handpicked by the producers of “Paddington” to voice the eponymous character. In a televised interview on The Buzz on Sunday, Xian said that he auditioned for the role by sending voice tapes to Studio Canal in London.
In an article on Pep.ph, Maver Mayuga, the marketing director of Captive Cinema, said that the producers said that the Filipino-Chinese actor’s voice resembled the original voice of Paddington by Ben Whishaw.
Meanwhile, Xian’s onscreen partner Kim Chiu said that she is proud of Xian.
“Nakakatuwa isa na siyang international artist (I’m happy that he is now an international artist.),” Kim said during the Paddington’s premiere night last Friday.
“Paddington” also stars Nicole Kidman, Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Waters, and Peter Capaldi.
The movie, which is the film adaptation of the classic children’s books, tells the adventures and misadventures of a Peruvian bear who set out to London to find a new home. AJH
