MANILA, Philippines–Is Ai-ai delas Alas in the brink of another fallout with her friend Kris Aquino?
Ai-ai defended actress Judy Ann Santos’ post on Instagram lashing out President Benigno Aquino III’s as he was absent during the arrival honors for the slain members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) last January 29.
In an interview with Pep.ph on Wednesday, Ai-ai said that Judy Ann did nothing wrong as she was only voicing out her opinion on the issue.
“Yung kay [Judy Ann] nakita ko naman ‘yung IG niya, e. Demokrasya ‘to, so lahat tayo entitled sa mga opinion natin (I saw Judy Ann’s Instagram account. We are in a democratic country so we are entitled to our own opinion.),” Ai-ai said.
“Wala naman siyang sinabing masama dun, e. Pinag-compare niya lang. Sabi nga niya, ‘Just saying.’ Sinasabi lang niya yung opinyon niya,” (She said nothing wrong. she just presented a comparison. She even added ‘Just saying’ so she is just voicing her opinion.),” Ai-ai added.
The Comedy Concert Queen highlighted that celebrities also enjoy the freedom of speech in a democracy.
“Naiintindihan ko ‘yung kapwa-artista na nagbibigay ng opinyon nila. Sabi nga natin, freedom of the press and freedom of speech (I understand my fellow artists who are voicing out their opinion. We all enjoy freedom of the press and freedom of speech.)” she explained.
The presidential sister reportedly had an “unfollowing” spree on her Instagram account after some celebrities expressed their frustration on the absence of Aquino in the SAF arrival honors. One of the celebrities she allegedly unfollowed was Judy Ann who posted on her Instagram account a screengrab of a 2011 article stating that US President Barack Obama canceled his schedule to give honor to fallen troops. Judy Ann said “Just saying… Obama knows his priorities.”
Kris and Ai-ai reconciled during Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera’s wedding following a one-year rift.
Ai-ai has recently returned to Instagram a few months after quitting the photo-sharing app and her other social media accounts. AJH
