NEW YORK, United States—An independent film that will dramatize President Barack Obama’s first date with Michelle Obama is in development.

Producer Stephanie Allain confirmed Monday that she and Tracey Bing are producing “Southside With You,” about the first summer afternoon the Obamas spent together in Chicago, in 1989. They visited the Art Institute of Chicago and went to see Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing.”
