MANILA, Philippines—Singer Lady Gaga has revealed that she was raped when she was a teenager.
The 28-year old pop diva disclosed in an interview with radio and television host Howard Stern that she was raped when she was around 19 years old.
The singer said her “horrific experience” inspired her to write one of her controversial songs, “Swine,” which was released last March.
She said that the song was about “rape and demoralization.”
According to her, she went through a lot of “mental and physical therapy” to help her heal from the experience.
She initially evaded the question of Stern if she was raped by a record producer, saying, “I don’t want to … Happy times! Let’s talk about happy things!”
She revealed that he was 20 years older than her.
Lady Gaga also said she never confronted the guy, citing it would “terrify and paralyze” her.
“I saw him one time in a store and I was so paralyzed by fear,” she said.
According to her, she did not disclose the incident to anyone at that time but eventually sought help.
“It didn’t affect me as much right after as it did about 4 years, 5 years after,” Lady Gaga said.
