Lessons from Rico Hizon
Mila Parducho, graduate student: “I’ve been following our very own Rico Hizon deliver the news on BBC. He never fails to inspire. He does not need to fake an accent to impress viewers. He should come home and deliver a lecture to local newscasters about how to deliver the news and conduct interviews.”
Other notes:
Rose Yabut, physician: “I only watch news and teleseryes from ABS-CBN, whose talents have more to give than rival stations. I notice, though, that its teleseryes start very credibly, not insulting to viewers’ intelligence, but end up miserably. The latter episodes of ‘Ikaw Lamang’ were so incredible and oozed with hatred and vengeance that I stopped watching altogether—because it was very unhealthy to one’s psyche!
“Teleserye dialogue tends to be repetitive, and scenes lack fluidity. Characters often intone overused phrases like ‘May pinagdaraanan.’ Kim Chiu always says ‘Anu’ instead of ‘ano,’ which is annoying. She and Angel Locsin often end their lines in confrontation scenes with ‘ha’ (as in ‘Ano bata talaga ang gusto mo, ha?’). The actors’ acting and dialogue have become so predictable!
“May directors make it their mission to respect the intelligence of their viewers, who always end up watching a series that starts with a bang but ends with a fizzle. The actors are good, but they’re made to mouth tiresome lines.
“I’m tempted to watch ‘Forevermore,’ because it’s directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, who seems to know what she’s doing. However, because of my experience with our teleseryes, I turn off my TV set after watching ‘TV Patrol.’”

I still think that her best suits are her singing and dancing abilities—so, Channel 2 should highlight them in a musical and age-appropriate teleserye.”
Lilia de Luna, university professor: “It would be great to see Carla Abellana and Christian Bautista as a team-up. Both of them are educated and wholesome. Why not put them in a movie or teleserye reminiscent of the rom-coms of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan? That would be a refreshing deviation from the usual ‘kilig’-inducing fare.”
Emma Magsino, televiewer: “I wholeheartedly agree with an item last week in praise of Tirso Cruz III. He’s such a great actor! He was able to successfully transition from a matinee idol to a dramatic actor. Younger actors should emulate him!”
