MANILA, Philippines—After reaping top film prizes locally, independent film “Bwaya” sets its sights to add an international win on its belt.
“Bwaya,” which bagged the Best Picture and other top prizes when it was first shown this year at the 10th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, is set to compete in the 15th Tokyo FILMeX on November 22 to 30, 2014, lead actress Angeli Bayani said in her recent Facebook post.
“Bwaya” is one of the nine films in competition in the said film festival.
The film, which centers on a mother’s search for answers when her 13-year-old daughter was attacked by a crocodile, was first shown internationally last September in the 19th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea.
Besides the Best Picture award, it won Best Cinematography for Neil Daza and Musical Score for Erwin Fajardo in Cinemalaya’s New Breed section in August this year.
“Bwaya” is directed by filmmaker Francis Xavier Pasion, who won his first Best Picture award for his breakthrough film, “Jay” in the 4th Cinemalaya in 2008.
