15-year-old Fil-Australian wins X-Factor Australia

Marlisa PunzalanMANILA, Philippine—Marlisa Punzalan, a 15-year-old Filipina-Australian singer, won the X-Factor Australia 2014 Monday.

Punzalan emerged as the victor in a three-way battle, contending with two other finalists: Brothers3 and Dean Ray.

The teen powerhouse was coached by former Boyzone member Ronan Keating.

During the grand finale, Punzalan got three standing ovations when she sang her audition piece “Yesterday” by The Beatles, her winner’s single “Stand By You”, and a duet with Jessica Mauboy for “Never Be The Same Again”.

After the grand finale aired Sunday, Punzalan said that she has “loved every bit” of her journey.

“What an amazing GRAND FINALE!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for everything!!! Loved every bit of my incredible journey and you are all with me in this. Your support means the world to me, please don’t forget to VOTE!! I will never forget all of your unbelievable support even after X Factor!!! You have changed my life forever!!!!
