Former radio and newspaper reporter and press secretary Ignacio “Toting” Bunye has a lot of interests—he cooks, swims, scuba and skydives, and loves underwater photography. Being a former member of the Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has taught him important lessons he wishes to share with Filipinos via his book, “Central Banking for Every Juan and Maria.”
The tome is useful for people who have little knowledge about banking and finance. As he points out, it’s crucial for consumers to have an idea about the state of their finances—from something as basic as what to do with the coins and bills in your wallet, to selecting which financial instruments to invest in.
Readers are encouraged to read chapter 13, about “Economic and Financial Education,” because “it’s possible for everyone to make sound economic and financial decisions, even if he doesn’t know much about economics.” If you have an OFW in the family, the fifth chapter is particularly helpful, because it discusses “BSP as Implementor of an Efficient Payments and Settlements System.”
Bunye stresses, “Financial education teaches people how to save, invest and manage their money properly—and helps them avoid stress!”
