MANILA, Philippines—TV network GMA-7 on Tuesday said that talent Aljur Abrenica’s complaints about his career and his decision to file for the rescission of his contract were “very unfortunate” because it considers the actor as “one of its prime artists.”
In a statement, GMA-7 said that its lawyers are still assessing the complaint filed by Abrenica.
“GMA Network received yesterday the complaint filed by Aljur Abrenica for the rescission of his Management Contract and exclusive Network Agreement. Our lawyers will review this and answer accordingly in court,” GMA-7 said in a statement.
Expressing his desire to end his contract with the TV network, Abrenica said that his career plans were no longer aligned with what GMA-7 envisions for him.
GMA, however, maintained that it had practiced a “consultative style of management” with the actor.
“GMA Artist Center has not been remiss in its duties as his manager practicing a consultative style of management with Aljur. With his best interest in mind, this practice has accorded him every opportunity to personally assess all offers to reach a mutual agreement,” it said.
“GMA Network has equally given him projects, some of which were lead roles in the Network’s primetime programs,” it added.
Abrenica was one of the winners of GMA-7’s talent search “Starstruck Season 4″ in 2007.
The 24-year-old actor has appeared in numerous projects including “Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?,” “All My Life,” “The Last Prince,” “Machete,” “Coffee Prince,” “Prinsesa ng Buhay Ko,” and “Kambal Sirena.”
On July 24, Abrenica filed a petition before the Quezon City Hall of Justice to end his contract with GMA-7 citing various reasons like the way the network packages him as a talent and the “crude” album title the management pitched to him.
His contract with GMA is supposed to end in 2017.
