MANILA, Philippines – Controversial National Artist nominee Nora Aunor was recognized by partylist Gabriela on Friday for her portrayal in a film that critics American military presence in the Philippines.
Representatives from Gabriela and Peace for Life presented the award to Aunor at the National Council of Churches in the Philippines.
The actress was recognized for Minsa’y Isang Gamu-Gamo (Once a Moth), a 1976 multi-awarded film here and abroad.
“I want to thank you and I can’t believe it that until today this film is still given importance,” she said.
She was recently disregarded among this year’s list of National Artists by President Benigno Aquino III. Early this week, Aquino admitted that he excluded the actress because of her drug use.
Aunor left immediately after the event and evaded questions from the media.
