DAVAO CITY—The first Davao Blues Festival kicks off on March 14 despite a lack of big sponsors, organizers said.
Blues Society of Davao said participants agreed to play “pro bono.”
“The important thing is to educate people about blues music,” said Pio Valdez, one of the prime movers.
Valdez, formerly of Tropical Depression, said Davao-based blues artists Popong Landero, guitarist Roger Gorgonio, foreign-based guitarist Allan Cabardo, Joey Narciso, Gifford Sumaylo and Tots Acebuche would play in the two-day fest at Matina Town Square Taboan.
