Fil-Am Malaya Watson dodges ‘Idol’ elimination
MANILA, Philippines—American Idol voters have decided to keep Filipino American Malaya Watson when they chose Friday (Manila time) the Top 12 of the popular singing competition.
Sixteen-year-old Watson of Southfield Michigan, the only remaining contestant with Filipino ancestry, advanced to the next round.
She performed her own rendition of Bruno Mars hit “Runaway Baby” during the competition Thursday morning (Manila time).
It was not smooth sailing at first as she was the first contestant to be sent to the bottom three.
But it was Kristen O’Connor of Sebastian, Florida that “Idol” voters chose to send home.
The other contestants who also made it to Top 12 are:
- Ben Briley
- Alex Preston
- Jena Asciutto
- Dexter Roberts
- Majesty Rose
- Sam Woolf
- CJ Harris
- Jessica Meuse
- Caleb Johnson
- Emily Piriz
- MK Nobilette
