Cops on duty when Vhong Navarro was brought to police relieved

MANILA, Philippines—Police officers on duty when the camp of businessman Cedric Lee and model Deniece Cornejo filed a blotter report against Vhong Navarro for rape have been temporarily relieved from their posts.

‎A radio report quoted Chief Superintendent Jose Erwin Villacorte, Southern Police District director, as saying the SPD relieved Superintendent Nelson Bautista, chief of the District Investigation and Detective Management. Also relieved was Police Officer 3 Dalmacio Lumiwan.

The radio report added that ‎other police officers on duty have also been relieved, including officer of the day Senior Inspector Eduardo Alcantara, PO3 Lory Laurento and PO3 Eugene Pugal.

Last January 22, Navarro was brought to the SPD headquarters in Taguig City by Lee, Cornejo and others involved i‎n the mauling of the actor-host after he was accused of raping Cornejo in her Bonifacio Global City condominium.

The five relieved police officers w‎ill be put under the custody of the SPD District Personnel Holding Unit while the investigation on the possible administrative lapses is being conducted, said the report.

Police said they did not conduct any further investigation since Cornejo did not pursue criminal charges against Navarro.
