Welcome, Earth ambassadors

The successful launch of “Project Headshot Earth” for Climate Change Commission (photographer Niccolo Cosme’s brainchild) last week at Holiday Inn’s Oz Bar could not have come at a better time than now, when we’re picking up the pieces after 2013’s super quake and typhoon.

The digital campaign utilizes headshots of influential individuals from different fields to promote the advocacy of taking care of our planet, one small act at a time. My dalaGay IC (Mendoza) and I are more than delighted to be Earth ambassadors, along with Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Rajo Laurel, Liz Uy, Elmo and Maxene Magalona, Alex Gonzaga, Pia Cayetano, Alessandra de Rossi and many more.

But it’s just a teaser for the bigger plans of Miss Teen Earth Philippines and Little Miss Earth Philippines in their call for earth’s preservation. Vas Bismark, the pageant’s trademark owner, hopes these projects will inspire people to care enough to make concrete changes. “Beauty is not only a physical attribute but also an act of love,” he points out. “We want to spread awareness of environmental issues, organize activities to help preserve nature and  mobilize Filipinos to create a cleaner environment.”

The pageant will go over and beyond the call of “beauty.”

So, the nationwide search is on for young Pinay beauties, 4 to 17 years of age. Pre-screening begins in February; pageant night is set for May 27 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. (Check out www.missteenearth.ph.)

Dateless V Day with Ogie

If you are dateless on V Day, Ogie Alcasid has the perfect proposition in his unusual Love Day concert, “Samahan ng Walang Ka-Valentine,” Feb. 13, 14 and 15 at the Music Museum Greenhills (call 8919999). Ogie will be without his wife, Songbird (Regine Velasquez), on Hearts’ Day as he serenades those who would rather call it Hurts’ Day.

Excerpts from our chat:

How did you come up with such a unique Valentine’s Day show concept?

Our research team found that every Valentine season, a section of the market—those who don’t have Valentine dates—is left out. This concept is for that sector.

What would you tell people who are nursing broken hearts?

Elmo Magalona

Pray for a partner. God listens.

How does one move on?

Forgive and be refreshed by a new beginning. Learn from the heartache; be patient.

How has your marriage evolved?

Our marriage works because [we] involve God every step of the way. It may sound corny but… there really is no way around it.

When Baby Nate is old enough, what advice would you give him about love and women?

Take your time. Stay committed to God’s plan.

What  about your two daughters?

My daughter, Leila, has a special friend and I am very proud of how she handles herself.

Maxene Magalona

What’s the craziest thing you did for love?

Everything we do in love is crazy.

What can the audience expect from your show?

It is dedicated to hopeless romantics. I will sing songs that will make you cry and reminisce, but still wax optimistic.
