LOS ANGELES—Disney’s musical fairy tale adaptation “Frozen” won the Golden Globe for best animated film on Sunday, beating “The Croods” and “Despicable Me 2.”
The studio’s 53rd feature-length film, released in the United States for the Thanksgiving holiday in November, is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen” — even if it takes substantial liberties with plot and characters.
With a budget of $150 million, it grossed over $67 million to top the box office in its North America debut weekend, and returned to the top spot last week.
The movie brought to fruition a project which was on Walt Disney’s wish list, 25 years after Disney’s last Andersen adaptation, “The Little Mermaid.”
