PADILLA AND BERNARDO. TV-movie pair to beat.

Myla Doble, office employee: “The Daniel Padilla-Kathryn Bernardo love team is definitely the teenage pairing to beat this film season. ‘Pagpag’ emerged third at the box office, and they make such a lovely pair in their top-rated teleserye, ‘Got to Believe.’

“I just hope that their upcoming projects will be better in terms of believability and age-appropriate storylines, and will be handled by directors who can coax memorable portrayals from them.”

Sylvia Calumpang, housewife: “On ‘TV Patrol,’ I chanced upon Doris Bigornia reporting inside a bus on Edsa. I could hardly figure out what she was saying because of the noise from the other passengers, the conductor and all the honking! She sounded indecisive and kept saying, ‘Ah, ah.’ It was painful to watch, so my husband and I switched channels.”

Jose Mari Maycacayan: “‘Wagas’ is a commendable drama anthology about the different facets of love, while ‘Brigada’ efficiently tackles current events. My bets for best performances last year are Rustica Carpio (for ‘Ano Ang Kulay Ng Mga Nakalimutang Pangarap?’), Agot Isidro (‘Mga Anino ng Kahapon”), Ruby Ruiz (‘Ekstra’) and Joey Paras (‘Bekikang’).”

Egay Katada, student: “Robin Padilla’s ‘10,000 Hours’ may have gotten the lion’s share of the awards in the ongoing MMFF festival, but the trophies the film received didn’t help improve its box-office standing. Comedies and suspense-thrillers featuring popular actors and teenage love teams lorded it over the tills, and action pictures seem to have lost their appeal.

“I was impressed by the risks Robin took—but, with his film’s dispiriting box-office showing, he might go back to doing commercial flicks that feature his signature pa-porma acting style. That would be unfortunate because, as he similarly proved in ‘La Visa Loca,’ Robin is capable of turning in fine performances.”
