Quirino Grandstand comes alive with arrival of MMFF stars
MANILA, Philippines — Amid overcast sky, the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) kicked off Sunday afternoon at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Supporters of films participating in the festival flocked to see the floats, as well as their favorite stars.
Celebrities greeted their fans and gave out souvenirs.
The films featured in the MMFF are “10,000 hours,” “Pedro Calungsod,” “Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy,” “Pagpag,” “Kimmy Dora, Ang Kiyemeng Prequel,” “My Little Bossings,” “Boy Golden,” and “Kaleidoscope World.”
Two hours after the parade left SM MOA, it reached Quirino Grandstand where a larger crowd was waiting.
Article continues after this advertisementFamilies and friends sitting along the sidewalks near Rizal Park immediately stood up and crowded near the floats, hoping to get a glimpse of the celebrities.
Article continues after this advertisementPeople shrieked in excitement whenever a new float would pass by, with local stars throwing posters and shirts to the crowd.
Among the most applauded was the float of “My Little Bossings” carrying Vic Sotto, Ryzza Mae Dizon, Kris Aquino and her son Bimby.
Similar treatment was given to Eugene Domingo and Vice Ganda.
On the other hand, many people followed the float of “Pagpag” where Daniel Padilla was.
ER Ejercito, KC Concepcion and their “Boy Golden” co-stars dazzled the crowd with their gold-inspired float while the “Kimmy Dora, Ang Kiyemeng Prequel” float boasted of a larger-than-life model of Eugene Domingo’s face.
The floats of “Pedro Calungsod,” “10,000 Hours” and “Pagpag” were based on the films’ respective themes.
