Time to remember Jesus Christ

SUZI Entrata-Abrera

We asked the stars: Why should we celebrate Christmas this year after a string of disasters hit the country?

Suzi Entrata-Abrera:

No matter the calamities that befall us, some things stay the same. That is the love of Jesus for us and, in turn, our love for our own families and friends.

Life goes on and the resilient spirit of the Filipinos will always prevail even through the worst of times. It’s what makes us who we are: No matter what hardships, we always manage to continue to keep our spirits up. This Christmas shouldn’t be any different.

Mitch Valdes:

Christmas is about Jesus Christ and hope. Somewhere along the way it became about feasting and pressurized gift-giving. Now is the time to go back to its essence.

Chito Miranda:

More than ever, ngayon natin talaga kailangang i-celebrate ang Christmas. Can you imagine how depressing it would be kung ganun na nga ang nangyari sa kanila (victims), sabay kakalimutan natin ’yung isang napakalaking okasyon na nagbibigay ng kasiyahan mula nung bata pa tayo?

Ngayon natin dapat iparamdam ’yung spirit of Christmas, which is giving. It’s a great idea that lots of companies decided to cancel their Christmas parties and just donate, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re forgetting about Christmas. Now is also an opportunity for people to reflect.

A lot of people lost their families during the recent disasters but, hopefully, they will still be happy during Christmastime. This is possible if they surround themselves with people who love them— who they also consider family—and just enjoy the season.
