The story behind two celebrity breakups

/ 08:15 PM March 08, 2011

MY SCOOP on the breakup of actress-TV host Angel Aquino and former TV personality turned businessman Lui Villaruz, which came out in this column a few weeks ago, is now the talk of the town.

Lui has been trying to get in touch with me to air his side, and I heard he’s kind of bitter. Angel is a dear friend so I didn’t want to aggravate matters.

I was told that Lui admitted to DJ Mo in their one-on-one interview (to be aired on Sunday in our show) that he still loves Angel and hopes she’s happy.

But if Lui really means what he said, he should just zip it. It’s so ungentlemanly of him to be talking about the rumored new man in Angel’s life.

FEATURED STORIES

Someone close to the “new guy” let me in on the real score: “The guy has a longtime GF whom Angel has met. Mind you, he’s no DOM. Napaka-disente. Private person siya na well-respected sa line of work niya. So, he doesn’t deserve to be dragged into the mess. Besides, what he and Angel has is a platonic relationship. He just helps her out and gives her gifts because that’s his nature. He is really galante with all his close friends. No malice involved. Perhaps Lui just got insecure, that’s why now he is resorting to spreading crazy stories about Angel and the guy.”

Beneath Angel’s diva image is a simple and down-to-earth woman. I can vouch for that because I used to hang out with her when she was still with her musician BF. Material wealth is immaterial to her. You can count on her even when there is no money to count.

So it’s really unfair that some people are making it seem like she’s out to get what she can get from a rich admirer/friend. She’s always in fashion but being a material girl has never been her style.

Pampi speaks

The rumored separation of Jodi Sta. Maria and Pampi Lacson has been the loudest whisper for quite some time now. So many “subplots” about their breakup are splashed on the tabloids.

Finally, Pampi clears up the issue via his statement which he entrusted to us on TV 5’s “Paparazzi.” Here goes:

“Inaamin ko na ang pagsasama naming mag-asawa ay kasalukuyang dumadaan sa isang matinding pagsubok. Isang pagsubok ito na pinagsikapan naming mahinahon na malampasan, alang-alang sa aming anak at kapwa pamilya. It has been seven months since we silently parted ways. We would have maintained that silence until we resolve the issue about the marriage when the malicious and totally erroneous reports came out.

“I particularly would like to take exception to accusations that our situation came about solely out of my wrongdoing.

It’s bad and sad enough when a marriage ends. All the more if the couple is subject to public scrutiny. So let’s spare Pampi and Jodi additional anguish and let them pick up the pieces quietly. A broken celebrity marriage is always headline material, but we should not be deafened by all the sensationalism to be attuned to the sound of two hearts breaking.

‘SuperwoMOMs’

Sporting a fresh look, “Full Time Moms” continues to be the talk-variety show for and about mothers from all walks of life, now on the new channel, GMA News TV (weekdays, 5 p.m.). Hosted by Christine Jacob-Sandejas and Suzi Entrata-Abrera, it has now more zest as seen in its OBB—the hosts having fun with moms of different professions as they perform their many roles in their journey as superwoMOMS.

PERSONAL: Thanks from the bottom of my heart to my dear friend and fab expectant mom, Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan, for taking time out to be a guest speaker at the “Love, Courtship and Marriage” seminar of my stepdad, Gene Tagasa’s Jesus The Passover Lamb Church. Maricel was born to be a blessing.
